Nonstop haben die vier Jungs von Yard Act an neuem Songmaterial gefeilt, während sie im Lockdown auf die Möglichkeit warteten, endlich wieder neue Konzerte geben zu können. Dass ihre diesjährige Debüt-EP „Dark Days“ heißt, kann demnach niemanden wundern. Passend dazu serviert das Quartett Storytelling im Deadpan-Modus, versehen mit catchy Gitarren und gnadenlosen Grooves, die ihren Mix aus Post- und Dance-Punk unwahrscheinlich eingängig machen. Dass die Lyrics Sozialkritik mit Humor, politische Standpunkte mit Stilsicherheit verbinden, ist jetzt schon ein Markenzeichen dieser Band – hier passt das ganze Konzept künstlerischer Auseinandersetzung mit gesellschaftlichen Realitäten von vorne bis hinten optimal zusammen. Dabei umschiffen Yard Act sämtliche Fettnäpfchen, die bei der augenzwinkernden Wiederbelebung von Post-Punk so auftreten können – und zeigen verflucht eindrücklich, dass diese neue Welle abgefahrener junger Rockbands aus England noch längst nicht abebbt.

Vom 22.-25. September fand das Reeperbahn Festival 2021 nicht nur vor Ort sondern erneut auch im umfassenden Livestream statt. Seit dem Debüt im Jahr 2006 hat sich das Reeperbahn Festival zu einem der wichtigsten Treffpunkte für die Musikwelt entwickelt und zeigt, wie sich ein überbordendes musikalisches Line-Up mit musikwirtschaftlichen Interessen und zivilgesellschaftlichem Engagement verbinden lässt.
Neben Konzerten umfasste das Programm auch Formate aus der Bildenden Kunst oder Virtual Reality sowie ein thematisch vielfältiges Film- und Literaturangebot. Im Rahmen von Sessions, Showcases, Networking Events und Award-Shows konnten Fachbesucher*innen des Reeperbahn Festivals Musik neu denken, erleben und hören.

Unsere Festivals finden im Zeichen des Miteinanders statt– Rassismus, Sexismus, Homophobie und Ausgrenzung finden bei uns keinen Platz.

Yard Act have been working on new song material non-stop while waiting for the lockdown to end and for an opportunity to finally play some shows again. The fact that their debut EP this year is titled ""Dark Days"" is therefore of little surprise to anyone. Fittingly, the four-piece serves up a deadpan style story telling with catchy guitar riffs and merciless grooves which make their mix of post and dance-punk incredibly engaging. Their ability to lyrically combine social critique with humor and to convey political standpoints with stylistic confidence has already turned into a trademark of the band – their artistic exploration of social realities is a concept which simply works from top to bottom. In fact, Yard Act avoid all the blunders associated with the sometimes sarcastic revival of post-punk and impressively demonstrate that this new surge of weird young rock bands from England is far from over.

From September 22-25, Reeperbahn Festival 2021 did not only take place on site but also in a comprehensive livestream once again. Since its debut in 2006, Reeperbahn Festival has become one of the most important meeting points for the music world and shows how an exuberant musical line-up can be combined with music business interests and civil society engagement.
In addition to concerts, the programme also included formats from the visual arts or virtual reality as well as a thematically diverse film and literature offering. In the context of sessions, showcases, networking events and award shows, Reeperbahn Festival professionals were able to think, experience and listen to music in a new way.
