Today on Arcland Pro, we introduce you to one of the most important and influential architects and theorists of our time: Patrik Schumacher.Born in Germany in 1961, Schumacher studied philosophy, mathematics, and architecture before moving to London, where he joined Zaha Hadid Architects in the late 1980s. He became Zaha Hadid’s closest collaborator, and after her passing in 2016, he took over as Principal of ZHA, ensuring the office’s survival and global expansion.Beyond practice, he co-founded the AA Design Research Lab (DRL) in 1996, training generations of architects in computational and experimental design. His academic contributions include the monumental two-volume The Autopoiesis of Architecture, where he outlines a comprehensive theory of the discipline.Schumacher is best known for introducing Parametricism, a style based on computational and algorithmic design processes, which he describes as the successor to Modernism and Postmodernism.
