One Battle After Another Movie Review by Sucharita - What do you do when all your best efforts hit and absolutely immovable wall? Doesn’t it seem like the times we are living in, this is the experience of, just overall existance? Tell me truth, how many time do you ask yourself, if any of it, ANYTHING, even matters

When things are this dire, shaking oneself out of the stupor of surrender becomes the most important, most difficult thing to do, but to conquer the inertia, even the expression of radical empathy has to be militant in nature.
Lets talk about One Battle After Another.

I watched the film in Vista vision, so perhaps it’s the effect of that format, or perhaps Michael Bauman’s cinematography, or the relatabile sadness brought on by the satire in PTA’s writing, but I was INSIDE One Battle After Another by the time the climax rolled around. Almost in conversation with Ari Aster’s Eddington, here too there is an indictment of a young person’s understanding of the importance of disobedience, but unlike that film, here the caricature gives way to characters suffering deep-rooted, long-held hurt, that has had no place to escape and has hence has burst out causing maximum commotion.

With One Battle, PTA also leans heavily toward his reverence for women in positions of power and why men have always been worried about the potential of women with influence and means. Why most oppressive systems, legal and otherwise are, at the heart of it, misogynistic institutions whose main agenda is to invisibalise the female of our species and why it is eventually only on women to save ourselves, as well-meaning men try learn to catch up haphazaradly. None of these studies is presented as a solution to the fraught relationship between might and gender. But currently, as the world seems to be rapidly back-pedalling and undoing all the work done by well-meaning feminists who have come before us, making some sort of sense of this mess via drama and high concept satire is at least one way of engaging with the hell-fire.


One Battle After Another is a 2025 American epic action thriller film written, produced, and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. It is inspired by the 1990 novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon.[5] The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti (in her film debut), and follows an ex-revolutionary (DiCaprio) who must rescue his daughter (Infiniti) from a corrupt military official (Penn).
