Herschel Walker at Fort Leavenworth, interview by Stationed at Fort Leavenworth

Herschel Walker visited Fort Leavenworth Army post on Sept. 24, 2013. He was gracious enough to allow us to ask him a few questions in between signing autographs. This 2 ½ minutes of interview by one of our own here at Stationed at Fort Leavenworth.

Stationed at Fort Leavenworth:
"The first question has to do with your diet. Can you tell us a little bit about your diet - what you eat every day."
.
Herschel Walker:
"I eat one meal a day. I don't eat red meat. I eat more vegetables, fruit, and a lot of bread. But i only eat one meal a day."

Stationed at Fort Leavenworth:
"The next one has to do with your workout routine. "

Herschel Walker:
"Yes. My workout consists mostly of body lifting. I do about 3500 sit ups everyday, 1500 pushups, and I do a lot of riding, a lot of jogging, and a lot of cycling.

Stationed at Fort Leavenworth :
"Can you show us that push up that you did? That one, the special one?

Herschel Walker:
"Yes. Oh, this one?"

Stationed at Fort Leavenworth :
"Awesome! Thanks so much!"

Stationed at Fort Leavenworth :
"Now, the next question...Today, you spoke about suicide prevention, have you personally dealt with any of this, and if so, WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?"

Herschel Walker:
"You know, I've dealt with it personally myself. My biggest thing I did was playing Russian roulette. And what kept me going was going to a hospital. I understand that we all have problems and we all are somebody. Having loved ones like my ex-wife, my pastor and also my doctor let me know that life is special. That suicide is not the way to go. And had me believe in the Lord Jesus Christ."

Stationed at Fort Leavenworth :
"Last question: For the ones that were not able to see you today, do you have anything you want to share with them? No script, just whatever you want to tell them."

Herschel Walker:
"Yeah, what I'd like to tell everybody that didn't get to see me today is that, as I said earlier, YOU ARE SOMEBODY, and we all fall short of the glory of God. And we all have problems. But one thing about it is, you've a problem if you're ashamed to admit it. I'm not too ashamed to admit that I'm not perfect, that I'm also a vase but I can also be clay. There is always glue that can put you back together. Just remember that there is nothing wrong in admitting that you have a problem."

Thank you, Herschel Walker, so much for your time and your candid answers! You are truly an inspiration for so many of us. God bless. ARMY STRONG! HOOAH!
