Building a 1974 Ford Bronco from scratch with new sheet metal and reproduction parts from Golden Star Classic Auto Parts.
Of all the Week to Wheelin’ projects, this 1974 Ford Bronco build was by far the most ambitious. The Team at MotorTrend had the vision of building an iconic first-generation Bronco into a ride that would be ready to do some serious off-roading but have a one-of-a-kind look.
With the price of 1966 – 1977 Bronco’s soaring, the Team quickly pivoted from buying an original Bronco in decent condition to building one from the ground up. Thankfully, the aftermarket support and sheet metal made this possible.
The Week to Wheelin’ Team started out with the idea of using a reproduction Golden Star Classic Auto Parts 1966-1977 Ford Bronco Chassis Frame Assembly, which had all of the mounting brackets and holes in the factory location. It’s built to be at OE level of quality and also had motor mounts placed for the upgraded, modern v8 drivetrain.
With the chassis in place, Golden Star Classic Auto Parts provided every piece of sheet metal needed to build a complete 1966 – 1977 Ford Bronco Body, with the 1974 version of the first gen Bronco being the actual year built.
The 1966 – 1977 Ford Bronco sheet metal included everything from large to small: doors, floor sections, grille, window frames, rocker panels, firewall, wheelhouse, door jamb, door latches, tailgate, door posts, inner fenders, radiator supports, seat platforms, battery tray, cowl panels, floor crosses, brace supports, quarter panels, vent window assemblies, pillar reinforcement, tank filler guards, glove box door, hinges, door skins, wheelhouse filler plates and much more.

A team in Ohio was able to build the Ford Bronco body with all of the provided sheet metal, do some minor body work and get it ready for paint.
It’s definitely the paint that stands out on this build
When it came to suspension to mount to the Golden Star Classic Auto Parts frame, Wild Horses 4x4 provided a package that included the radius arms, leaf springs, shocks, coils and more. Jim and Mitch Creel also provided helping hands throughout the 1 week thrash to help everything go together.
To really get this Bronco ready for anything put in front of it, the team installed a Dana 44 with 4.56 gears, which was provided by Nitro Gear & Axle. In the rear, a Ford 9-inch with an Eaton Truetrac was added with a 31-spline axle shaft.
Now not all of the parts on this Bronco needed to be high performance so the Team turned to Duralast for OE level replacement parts including brake calipers, rotors, pads and drums along with a radiator.
So exactly what engine would be sitting on those motor mounts? The guys from Week to Wicked decided on a Boss 302 provided by Ford Performance, which was backed up a Ford AOD transmission from GearStar and an Advance Adapters Atlas transfer case.
To help run the engine, the guys opted for the more modern Holley Sniper EFI, MSD Distributor and Weiand intake.
Within 1 week, the guys at Week to Wheelin’ were able to go from a painted Golden Star Classic Auto Parts body and stock chassis to a burning out 1974 Ford Bronco. It just goes to show with the right team, the right parts and a crazy work ethic dream of completing a project in a short time frame can come true.
