Theodore Mitchell wakes up in his suburban bedroom to an emergency alarm screaming from his spaceship—except he's supposed to be 4.7 billion miles away in the Kuiper Belt. The ship's systems say he's been in space for 187 days. His kitchen clock says it's been 14 hours since launch.

Both are telling the truth.

When Theodore discovers Kepler Industries' classified Penrose Protocol, he learns the horrifying reality: his consciousness has been split at the quantum level. One version mining ice in deep space. One version trapped at home. And he's not the first. Twenty-two others came before him, and not one of them ever came back whole.

As his living room transforms into a spaceship cockpit and the two versions of himself begin bleeding into each other, Theodore realizes the truth is far worse than he imagined. Consciousness doesn't need a body to persist. And some of the previous test subjects have been trapped between realities for nearly a decade—aware, suffering, unable to die.

With oxygen running out in both locations and a forced "integration" counting down, Theodore must make an impossible choice: merge with all twenty-three fragmented consciousnesses and lose himself forever, or trigger a catastrophic collapse that might free everyone—including the scientist who's been guiding him, who's been dead and aware for twelve years.

This is a story about isolation, corporate horror, and the terrifying question: what if dying isn't the worst thing that can happen to you?
