Learning Effortless Vibrato

Описание к видео Learning Effortless Vibrato

Learn the different body mechanisms that control all the different qualities of vibrato. These qualities including how fast, how wide, and how much you hear the pitch or not.

This video will focus on a vibrato where the main motor of the movement is your fingers, and it will show how the wrist becomes involved as well. While finger vibrato can be extremely helpful to learn, I'd like to note that some people have very nice effortless vibratos where the wrist is the main motor of the movement or the arm is the main motor of the movement, and any different type of vibrato is good to have in your expressive pallet to create the music you want. However, if you can develop a vibrato motored by your fingers, it will likely make both arm and wrist vibrato more effortless.

Both wrist and arm vibrato can be done effectively where the fingers maintain tension and pressure into the string during a held note with vibrato. However, finger vibrato requires the fingers to release every oscillation, and so learn to continuously release. Because of this, learning finger vibrato can help learn how to play very fast in tune, as the finger mechanism of engaging and releasing at a fast speed is trained with the vibrato. It will also help shifting, as the ability to release the finger pressure into the string at any moment is an important ability to not get stuck when you shift.

Even if you do not eventually use this finger mechanism for your default vibrato, the process of learning finger vibrato helps us learn how to loosen the finger joints, which is important for all types of vibrato.
