The notice was taped to my front door with enough force to dimple the wood.
I know this because I was standing in my garage at 7:43 on a Tuesday morning, eating a bowl of cornflakes that had already surrendered to the milk, staring at the dimple, when I should have been thinking about the Monza aerodynamic load calculations sitting on my desk inside.
I worked in motorsport engineering.
I'd spent the last eleven years designing surface coatings and track infrastructure for racing circuits.
My driveway was, by any reasonable standard, the most structurally sound piece of residential asphalt in the Cedarwood Estates subdivision.
Possibly in the county.
Definitely in the cul-de-sac.
The notice didn't care about any of that.
