During / While / For can be quite confusing. Here is the summary:

DURING
Used for any specific time period. However, "DURING" is almost always followed by a noun or noun phrase.

For Example:
I can play during the day. (Day = noun)
He got lost during his trip to Paris. (His trip to Paris = Noun phrase)

WHILE
At the same time.
"WHILE" is followed by a clause (subject + verb) or verb (~ing).

For Example:
He licks his ice cream while I watch. (I watch = clause)
He eats chicken while watching a movie. (Watching = verb ~ing)

FOR
Shows how long something lasts.
"FOR" is followed by a time expression.

For Example:
I exercise for an hour. (An hour = time expression)

Now you know the difference between DURING, WHILE, and FOR.
