Easy care for the String of Turtles 🐢
☀ Bright, Indirect Light is Best: The String of Turtles thrives in bright, filtered sunlight.

🥲Signs of Incorrect Light:
Not Enough Light: Stems become "leggy," meaning there's a lot of space between the leaves as the plant stretches to find more light. The leaves may also appear smaller and less patterned.
Too Much Light: Leaves will fade and may develop a reddish tint or a washed-out appearance.

💦 Being a semi-succulent, it is very susceptible to root rot. It's always better to underwater than to overwater. I prefer to bottom water this plant. This allows the plant to absorb water from the bottom up and helps prevent water from sitting on the stems and leaves.

🌿 Well-Draining Soil: The key is to use a light, well-aerated potting mix. A good blend would be a standard potting mix with added perlite, coarse sand, or bark to improve drainage. You can also use a succulent or cacti mix. Avoid heavy, dense soils that retain too much moisture.

🪴Shallow Pot: String of Turtles has a shallow root system, so it does best in a shallow pot or a hanging basket. Using a pot that is too large will hold too much moisture, increasing the risk of root rot.
Terracotta pots are perfect for the string of turtles because the porous clay helps to wick away excess moisture from the soil, further preventing overwatering.

🥕 During the Growing Season: Feed your String of Turtles with a balanced plant food diluted to half-strength. Do this once a season during spring and summer and not at all during winter. Over-fertilizing can harm the plant's delicate root system.

Mushy/Yellow Leaves: A classic sign of overwatering and potential root rot. Check the soil moisture and let it dry out completely before watering again.
Wrinkly/Shriveled Leaves: This indicates the plant is underwatered. Give it a good drink, and the leaves should plump back up.
Pests: The String of Turtles is relatively pest-resistant, but watch out for common houseplant pests like spider mites, mealybugs, and scale. Use a natural treatment like neem oil if an infestation occurs.
