In this video I’m breaking in a brand new gel plate and showing you how to create beautiful organic textures right from the very first pull. When a plate is new, the paint often beads up across the surface, and that can feel a little intimidating if you’re just starting out. Instead of fighting it, I’ll show you how to embrace those natural marks and let them become part of the texture and character of your print.
To take it further, I use stencils to build a second layer—and the results are fabulous! Adding shapes and patterns on top of those organic textures transforms the print into something really special.
No fear, just get printing! Every pull teaches you something new, and the “imperfections” are what make your prints one of a kind. If you’re new to gel printing, this is the perfect reminder that there’s no “wrong” result—every layer of paint and every unexpected mark can add richness to your artwork.
