When we say that Africa doesn't need the West but the West needs Africa, some people think that we are just talking. But it's the truth. If this wasn't true, we would not see the West scrambling to have an alliance with African countries. When the coup occurred in Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, France was one of the first to condemn the military government and suspend diplomatic relations with these countries. But the consequences of that have been disastrous for France from getting kicked out of these countries and the spread of anti-French sentiment. And now recent news revealed that France's National Airline, Air France, has lost 65 million euros after it was chased out of the Sahel. And it is now trying to come back. The question is “Why would Air France want to return to the Sahel and will the military governments agree? Let's find out.

France's fallout with the Sahelian countries began with the coup in Mali which brought President Assimi Goita to power. After this, the coup spread to Burkina Faso, Chad and Niger. However, it was the military leaders of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso that truly destroyed France's influence in the region. When the coup occurred in Niger in July 2023, France was among the first to condemn the coup, even giving support to the regional bloc, ECOWAS, to intervene militarily. Now, the reason why France did this was because France was scared of the possibility of what happened in Burkina Faso and Mali, happening in Niger. France also wanted to protect its military and economic interests in Niger.
