Many people have heard of the USS Arizona, the U.S. battleship that was destroyed in the Pearl Harbor attack. This is the story of a lesser-known ship also damaged in the raid, the USS California, launched in 1919 and which spent most of its career trying to avoid obsolescence. This is the story of the USS California, before, during and after the Pearl Harbor attack and World War II.
