Dermoids (or teratomas) are benign ovarian neoplasms found in young women, usually in the 20s or 30s, and they are the most common ovarian tumor in patients younger than 20. The tumors contain elements of skin, hair, sweat glands, blood, fat, bone, nails, teeth, cartilage, and thyroid tissue. Dermoid tumors are bilateral in 10-15% of cases. Typically they are discovered incidentally.
