Confidential mode on the Gmail app is a security feature that allows you to send emails and attachments that expire and include additional sharing controls. It helps prevent recipients from accidentally or maliciously sharing sensitive information.

1. Open the Gmail app and tap Compose.
2. Write your email as you normally would, including the recipient and subject.
3. Tap the More options menu, which looks like three vertical dots, in the top-right corner.
4. From the menu, select Confidential mode.
5. Turn on the confidential mode toggle.
6. Set an expiration date for your email. You can choose from options like 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, or 5 years. After this date, the recipient will no longer be able to view the email or any attachments.
7. Optional: Add a passcode. You can choose to require a passcode, which adds an extra layer of security.
Standard Passcode: Gmail users will be able to open the email directly. Non-Gmail users will receive a passcode via email.
SMS Passcode: Both Gmail and non-Gmail users will receive a passcode via text message, which they must enter to view the email. If you select this, you will be prompted to enter the recipient's phone number before sending the message.
8. Tap Save in the top-right corner.
