Thatere are the people who make kitchen utensils.
There are some families in the lanes of the walled city of Jaipur who still continue to do this work. The thateres are basically Rajputs. They were invited by Raja Maan Singh to make kitchen utensils for them. The families have come from different parts of the country and settled in Jaipur from almost 300 years now.
These items are made with brass of copper.
With changing times they make kitchen utensils as well as different decorative items and sihasans for Gods and Godesses, kalash for the temples etc .The orders come from different parts of the country.
On talking to some of these craftsmen, i was told that there is enough work for them in the market. They also expressed that they would like their children to continue with the same profession of their ancestors.
