Making a Hydraulic Cylinder Piston | Hitachi Zaxis 670 Excavator Part 1

This video is part 1 of a job to replace the hydraulic cylinder boom lift barrel and pistons off a Hitachi Zaxis 670 Excavator. Something has failed or made its way inside the cylinder and absolutely destroyed the pistons and scratched up the inside of the barrels, so we need to make 2 new pistons and replace the barrels! This part 1 shows the step by step process of making the new hydraulic cylinder pistons. We are starting with a solid piece of 200mm dia 38mnvs6 high tensile bar and need to drill and bore out the centre before machining and cutting the seal grooves on the lathe.
