ULTRALIGHT BACKPACKING GEAR - Knowing What I Know Now

Описание к видео ULTRALIGHT BACKPACKING GEAR - Knowing What I Know Now

In this episode, I discuss my thoughts on Ultralight Gear…knowing what I know now. If I had to start over, here are some things I would tell my young self about my big three in backpacking. Keep in mind, this is just one person’s opinion. I don’t claim to have all the answers. This is simply what works for me.

First, think about the fabric of your tent. I like Dyneema. Though I know that a lto of people like sil-nylon tents. Next, think about the shape of your tent. Do you have room for your gear. Do you choose a one or two person tent for backpacking. Do you want a pole tent, or a trekking pole tent. I choose a one trekking pole tent. However, it is expensive

Second, a backpack. I use the Dandee ultralight backpack. However, you have to get your backpacking kit down small enough to fit all your gear. Do you want a frameless pack or an internal frame backpack. With the stays you can carry more comfortably on your back. Ultimately, most people say that a pack that is 2 lbs or less for ultralight weight. I have a framed pack and a frameless pack, the frameless pack is for my ultralight setup. What fabric you use depends on your opinion of the fabric, whether it is ultra, dyneema, or robic, or another fabric.

Third, I use a quilt instead of a traditional sleeping back. You have to consider the r-rating of the sleeping bag, depending on the weather that you are camping in. What temperature rating you use is simply a personal preference in your climate. Also, it is important to consider the ground underneath your that will take the heat away from your body. So, whatever fabric that is underneath you, will not help you with warmth. So, you have to consider the sleeping pad for the r-value for warmth.

Lastly, think about customer service in the backpacking industry. Ultralight gear you may find is not as durable as the traditional gear. So, it is important to think about the company and whether they will back you with the expensive gear you purchase.
