Here is the entire process to setting up a proper 10g tank for a ball python under 500-800g.

TIMESTAMPS TO SKIP BORING SECTIONS:

Blacking out = 5:00

Foil Tape = 13:30

MATERIAL LIST (no price discussion):

10g tank

Screen

Screen clips

Pangea hide (small & medium recommended)

Water dish

Reptichip coco husk (block recommended)

Fake leaves (plastic recommended, no loops or chains)

Acurite digital thermometer/hygrometer (1 aaa battery)

Black out material (your choice. keep on outside)

HVAC foil tape (not tin foil. any brand)

Flukers 8.5" dome w/ dimmer (other domes need ceramic base to work with CHE)

External dimmer switch (if using dome without built in dimmer)

Ceramic heat emitter (75w recommended)

Tank uses AMBIENT heat and humidity. Not a GRADIENT. Gradients use a hot and cold side. Heat pads can be used with gradients. Ambient is a single temperature/humidity level throughout the tank. HEAT PADS ARE NOT NEEDED ON AN AMBIENT 10 GALLON.

You're ambient heat to aim for = 85f

Humidity = 60-70%

If humidity drops, mix a cup or 2 of water into the substrate. NO MISTING.

There are exceptions for some of this setup. I did not bring them up, as people don't need the confusion and assume they are the exception. Sometimes other substrates can be used, and sometimes a quality dimming thermostat is a good choice for the CHE. If you feel you are an exception, you can always make a post for confirmation.

Make sure to read the full care guide and check out the other material in the Files tab.
