What is Bhakti?
Bhakti means loving God with all your heart. It is not just doing prayers or rituals; it is feeling deep love and friendship for God. This love is pure and never ends. When someone has pure love for God, they feel peaceful, happy, and perfect. They don’t worry about losing things or want things just for themselves. They do not hate or get angry at others, and they don’t chase after fun or excitement in the world. Instead, their joy comes from loving and serving God.

How Does Devotion Feel?
People who have true devotion sometimes feel so happy inside that they can’t explain it. They might even feel like they are lost in God’s love and forget about everything else. This love is so special that it is not mixed with selfish desires or worldly wants. When we have this kind of devotion, we are ready to give up other things if they get in the way of our love for God.

What Do We Give Up?
To love God fully, sometimes we have to let go of certain habits or rules if they stop us from serving God with love. This does not mean we have to give up everything in life, but we should keep only those things that help our devotion grow stronger.

Different Opinions on Devotion
Many wise people have talked about what devotion means:

Some say devotion means loving to worship God in many ways.

Others say it means loving to listen to stories about God or talk about Him.

Some say it means taking away anything that stops us from loving God.

Narada says devotion means doing everything for God and feeling sad when we forget Him.

All of these are correct in their own way. The best example of pure devotion is the cowherd women (gopis) of Vraja, who loved Krishna with all their hearts.

Bhakti is the Best Path
Devotion is better than just doing good deeds, thinking deeply, or meditating. In fact, devotion is the sweetest result of all efforts. God loves people who are humble and kind, not those who are proud.

Some people think knowledge leads to devotion, others think both are important together, but Narada says devotion is good all by itself, just like you can’t satisfy your hunger by only looking at food—you have to eat it!

How to Get Bhakti
You can get devotion by:

Letting go of things that distract you from God.

Worshiping God always, even while doing daily things.

Listening to and talking about God’s special qualities.

But the most important way is by the mercy of great souls or by God’s own mercy. Being with people who love God is very rare and special. We should try very hard to spend time with such pure-hearted people and avoid bad company.

Crossing Over Illusion
If we stay away from bad influences and serve wise people, we can cross over the troubles of life. We should try to be selfless, give up attachments, and focus on loving God.

What Does Pure Love Feel Like?
It is very hard to explain pure love for God, just like it is hard for someone who cannot speak to explain what honey tastes like. But those who have it know how sweet it is. They want to see, hear, speak, and think only about God.

Other Points About Devotion
Devotion is easier than other spiritual paths because it is natural and brings peace. After starting devotional service, we should still do our duties, but offer all the results to God. We should avoid bad topics and stop being proud or dishonest. All our feelings should be connected to God.

The best devotees feel like servants or loving friends of God. Their love is so strong that just being near them can make others feel happy and pure. It doesn’t matter what someone’s job or family is—anyone can be a pure devotee.

We should not argue about God, but respect all holy scriptures, be patient, and try to develop good qualities like kindness, honesty, and faith.
