Lubrication in extreme environments with high temperatures or chemical ingress has been a long standing problem in premature bearing failures.
I came across EDT Corp based in WA about 15 years ago, I went through the process of trialling their remanufactured 'no lube solution' in a critical hot oil fryer.
The void where the grease usually sits is filled with a solid polymer, the cage is bespoke and the balls in this variety were high grade Stainless Steel to cope with chemical boil outs.
The trial took the unplanned outages to regular monthly occurrences with all the waste product and collateral damage to zero failures in two years!
The removal of planned lubrication over those two years paid back the investment in these upgraded units, they became OE in future builds.
