If you’re planning a DIY irrigation project, you may have noticed that there are a lot of material options out there – from PVC pipe to Poly Tubing, Layflat, Oval Hose and even common garden hoses.

Each one of them are not equal in every application, however. For example, you wouldn’t want to use a common garden hose for a high pressure sprinkler system as it would likely rupture before long due to the high pressure. Likewise, you wouldn’t want to use PVC pipe for a small patio container system, as the rigid pipe would be difficult to work with in smaller spaces and the UV exposure would quickly deteriorate the materials. This is why it's important to weigh out the different attributes and uses for each type of mainline type so you can choose the one that will provide you with the advantages you need while staying within your budget.
