Duane asks a series of questions that Jehovah's witnesses cannot answer and also discusses the Watchtower claim of being 'divinely directed' in contrast to being 'divinely inspired' and how divine direction can be said to outweigh divine inspiration since no one can understand the inspired Bible without their divine direction .

Whatever the watchtower is teaching today, its roots and the formulation of its leaders are in its presidency. Judge Rutherford taught that the holy spirit ceased to govern Gods people in the year 1918 and instead used Jesus to instruct invisible angels to pass on instructions to the Faithful & Discreet who in turn pass on 'light' to Jehovah's Witnesses:

The Watchtower publication: “Vindication,” volume III, l932, page 250 reads,
“…the heavenly messengers or angels of the Lord now used by the Lord in behalf of the remnant. These angels are invisible to human eyes and are there to carry out the orders of the Lord. No doubt they first hear the instruction which the Lord issues to his remnant and then these invisible messengers pass such instruction on to the remnant.”

“The Lord used the Watchtower to announce these truths. Doubtless he used his invisible deputies to have much to do with it” (Light, Vol. 1, l930, p. 64).

“ ..the servant class on earth are directed by the Lord through his duly constituted deputies or angels.”(Light, Volume II, 1930, p.20).

“This would indicate that Jehovah’s Witnesses today make their declaration of the good news of the Kingdom under angelic direction and support ... the nations will see the fulfilment of what these witnesses say as directed from heaven.” (The Watchtower, April 1, 1972, p. 200).

Over the years Jehovah's Witness leaders have modernised their language to reintroduce the holy spirit involvement and sound more authentic, they will make reference to being directed by Jehovah through the arch angel Michael (Jesus) and holy spirit and angels but maintain that they are NOT inspired by either Jehovah, Jesus or holy spirit yet anyone desiring light, truth or life must come to them for salvation!

As a side note: Anyone researching the Watchtowers history will soon find that they have , in the past suggested being directed by CT Russel (even after he died) , directed by angels, being directed by active force and even in modern years being directed by the dead but resurrected ones of the 144000 who they teach could be communicating doctrine to the living members of the Governing Body! ,example, Revelation: Its Grand Climax at Hand! p. 124-125 suggests the dead and risen 'John class ' is transmitting information to the living members of the 'John class ' who oversee the teachings of JWs, Anyone else suggesting such a thing would instantly be recognised as being a spirit medium or a demonic channel of communication.
If the Governing body actually knew who was transmitting 'light' to them, then they would not .have to keep guessing!
