Exploring the HIDDEN GEM of Kashmir- Gurez Valley! It is one of the most beautiful places in Kashmir and perhaps it’s best kept secret! It’s remote villages are located so close to the India Pakistan Border, that tourists were not allowed here for the longest time, and it has only opened for tourism in 2017. Even today it remains inaccessible for 6 months in the winters, because the roads get completely blocked by snow. This lack of connectivity with the rest of the world has allowed the natural beauty of Gurez to remain untouched. No doubt the views and the landscapes of this place are straight out of a dream, but it’s real essence lies in the warmth and hospitality of the locals here and immersing yourself in their very unique culture. It's rustic wooden huts make you feel transported back in time. Gurez is one such destination that gives you the chance to slow down and really experience the place instead of just traveling through it.

Gurez Valley comes under the Bandipore District of Kashmir and is located in the North of the Kashmir Valley. If you are planning to visit soon (which you totally should!) then here is some information you will find helpful:

🛣️ 140 kms away from Srinagar (Approx 6 hrs)
🚘 The road conditions are not that good so travel by an SUV/bike
🚕 Public transportation is not easily available. Infrequent/Expensive to hire private vehicle
📆 Open from May-October. If you want to see a bright lush green landscape, visit between June end to August end. (May- lot’s of rain, Sept/Oct- Landscape starts to become brown as Autumn approaches)
☔️ It can rain any time, carry rain wear and some warm clothes
🌡️ It is pleasant weather during summers, but if it rains it can get chilly (Avg 15°C - 25°C)
🏠 Hotel options are not many especially beyond Dawar. You mostly have to stay in guest houses/home stays. You can even carry your tent with you and pitch it in one of the villages for a nominal charge.
