The evolution of the horror film genre

Horror movies have come a long way since the first short film in 1896. The 1920s and 1930s were really a golden age of horror, with “Frankenstein,” “The Mummy” and the first color adaptation of “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.” In the 1940s and ‘50s, Alfred Hitchcock ruled it all, and he was followed by legendary storyteller Stephen King with classics like “Carrie” and “The Shining.” Of course, there’s the spoofs on horror like the “Scary Movie” films and the never-ending sequels of “Halloween.” But Hollywood has recently turned to real-life fears to spook us at the theater.
