At the beginning of this video, the pilot is faced with a fork in the river. Should he turn left or should he turn right? He has about 30 seconds to make a decision. The pilot looks at this "compass" (the real time map of the the plane's onboard navigation system) to understand what geographic directions left and right represent. He then looks at an offline map of the Yangtze River which shows that the river undulates to the north and the south between Chongqing and Wuhan but keeps consistently flowing east. The pilot turns left, following the prong that heads east.

By the end of this video, the pilot would have flown his plane around 700 miles, stubbornly and, with fanatic dedication, following the twists and turns of the Yangtze River all the way from Chongqing to Wuhan.
