In 1998 there were 10,000+ people that auditioned for a new show that MTV was going to air called The Cut that would be hosted by the late, great Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes from 90's Multi-Grammy winner, TLC. The crazy part is that I knew nothing about this show but my boys believed in me so much that they sent in my music to MTV to see if they could get me an audition.

The show would have 160 participants, with 3 different judges on each show, on some urban, American Idol type stuff before AI. Four slots per show where each artist/group would perform 90 seconds of their own music and the judges would narrow it down to a winner that would move onto compete again until they had one finalist that would have a video produced by and aired on MTV.

Because of my support system at the time, I had the opportunity to audition and make it to MTV's The Cut and be 1 of the 160 people picked to rap 90 seconds of one of my songs I wrote. No background lyrics. Just me, the mic, me controlling the crowd (and my potnah portraying the homeless dude I was rapping about).

My judges were LA and Las Vegas' Power 103.9 radio host Big Boy from Big Boy's Neighborhood (when he was actually a Big Boy), entertainment manager Josefa Salinas and Grammy Award Winning rap artist Coolio.

Take a ride back to 1998, before I was DJ DoWrong when I had the pleasure to rap in front of a nationally televised audience on MTV!!!! Did the judges get it right??
