Ever heard of a floating market? There are several in Thailand so on my solo adventure to Bangkok, I visited two local floating markets an hour outside of the city and a popular, touristy market to compare!

Traditionally, the floating markets are small to moderate sized markets in a narrow canal with several local food vendors accessible by boat. I ended my food tour for the day at the popular Chatuchak Weekend Market, which was vibrant, lively and offered souvenirs, clothings and live entertainment in addition to tons of food vendors.

I hired a local driver, Peter, using the Grab app to take me around to all the markets, dine and even bargain for me!

While the small, local floating market, Tha Kha Floating market had substantially cheaper items and was far less crowded, I personally wouldn’t recommend traveling an hour away to go there. But I had to experience it for myself! The next one, Amphawa Floating Market, was just 15 minutes away from Tha Kha and was just as local and cheap in price but was larger and had much more food and shopping options. This one was a hit! Finally, Chatuchak—a bit pricier than the local markets—is definitely one to visit for the experience, energy, and vibrance of Thai culture!

Overall, this was such a fun experience and highlight of my stay in Bangkok. The street food was delicious, authentic, and cheap! This is a must-do on your Bangkok, Thailand trip.
