Today we will be covering comments within WordPress. Comments allow you to have interaction with your viewers so that they can reply with their opinion about a topic or media file that you allowed them to view. However, there may also be times when you do not want to give your viewers the ability to add comments. We will define comments in terms of their use in WordPress, show you how to enable, and also how to disable comments for posts or pages.

How are Comments Defined in WordPress

There are two types of comments that can be added within a WordPress site: Administrator Comments and User comments

Administrator comments are comments that you or other people who have access to your Administrator dashboard can make on any of your pages or posts.

User Comments are comments that viewers can make on any page or post of your WordPress site. User comments can be moderated so that they do not appear to the general public until they are approved.

How to enable comments

Log in to the WordPress Administrator
Click on Pages or Posts
Click on Add to add new page/post, or on Edit for any existing page/post
At the top of the screen, look for Screen Options, then click on drop down arrow to see the options available

We will be concentrating on two of the options in this video tutorial:

Discussion
Comments

In order to allow for Administrator Comments to appear, click on Comments.
Click on UPDATE or PUBLISH in the top right-hand corner in order for the option to be approved.

When the option is approved, Editors and Administrators with access to the Administrator Dashboard are able to add their own comments to the page.


In order to allow Viewer Comments, click on the checkbox next to Discussion, then scroll down until you see the options for Discussion under the post or page. Click on Allow Comments, then click on UPDATE or PUBLISH in the top right-hand corner in order for the options change to be saved.

When you click on the page, in the site, you will see the option to be able to leave a comment under the post or page content.
