Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500, we're gonna be showing you how to install the B&W Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch. Before we do that though, let's just take a minute, we'll check this out and make sure it's gonna be the right setup for you. So nowadays, even with these half-ton trucks, you know they're capable machines and you can actually do some pretty heavy duty towing with them. And if that's what you plan on doing, that's where a kit like this would come into play, give you that attachment point that you need to hook your trailer up and pull it down the road. Me personally, I'm a huge fan of the B&W hitches.

I think they make some of the best hitches out there. And if you're familiar with the towing world, you've probably seen the name, recognize the name, and there's a reason for it. 'Cause they know what they're doing. But this particular setup, I'm a big fan of it, especially in the short bed trucks, just 'cause you don't have a whole lot of room back here. And with that said too, this kit will work with the long beds if that's what you have.

But I like the fact that it's super clean, right You don't have a lot of stuff going on, taking up a bunch of space in the bed of your truck. So you'll be able to hook up your gooseneck trailer, right And then when you're not using the hitch, you can take the ball, flip it over, and actually store it inside of the hitch, which keeps everything together. It's out of the way. You know, you don't have to keep track of the ball or it rolling around in the backs of your truck or anything like that, so that's pretty cool. And you kinda get two for one honestly, because with this underbed hitch, you're actually able to use a fifth wheel head with it too.

So B&W makes a fifth wheel head, it's called the Companion. And it's specifically designed to work with the underbed hitch. That'll drop into place and you can hook up a fifth wheel style trailer as well. So you can kinda grow into it. If you have a gooseneck now, might need to tow a fifth wheel in the future, you know, at least you'll be halfway set up.

Or what a lot of people do too is, they only have a fifth wheel hitch or a fifth wheel type trailer, and they don't want those big rails, you know, the traditional style rails in the bed of the truck, taking up a bunch of space. So you can get this, the Companion, and be able to pull that fifth wheel around. Over on the side, the kit is gonna have plates specifically designed for your truck and that's gonna make everything go together much better than most of the hitches out there. Again, it's just that B&W quality, you know, they think things through and really try their best to make everything easy on you. And something that sounds kind of silly but I think is important is the handle mechanism. So this is how you would lock the ball into the hitch or open it up to take it out and flip it around, or whatever you need to do. With the B&Ws, pull it out, and just barely turn it, (metal clanks) it'll lock into place. You don't have to search for that lock or you know, kinda wander around and try to find that to keep it open. And that's not the case with all of 'em out there. And you know, I could just see myself at nighttime, in the cold or rain or something like that, trying to deal with this. It's a little things in life, right So it's good to see that everything's super easy to operate. Underneath the truck, here's what the hitch looks like and fits up there nice and tight, you know, clears everything, doesn't get in the way, you know, of too many things. And overall a good fit. We do get a lot of questions in regards to suspension enhancements and if you're gonna be able to use something like that in conjunction with this in-bed hitch. And it's hard to speak for every single enhancement out there, but generally speaking you should be in pretty good shape. I do know that there's a set of air springs that's compatible with this particular hitch and they just bolt up to the bottom of the frame so you're good there. And a lot of the other ones on the market, you know like the ones that are more of a leaf spring style enhancement, I don't see any reason why those wouldn't work because they're not even close to the side plates on the hitch or anything like that. And the same's gonna hold true for the jounce bumper upgrade type enhancements, like a Timbren or a Sumo Spring. Really no reason you shouldn't be able to use those because they're just not even close to the hitch o
