Fireworks on the Horizon | Joey Carter

Commissioned by the Warrensburg Community Band for their 40th Year Anniversary and premiered on July 3rd, 2024 at their Patriotic Spectacular Concert.

Fireworks on the Horizon is inspired by just that, watching fireworks. Dr. Corey Seapy came to me during my last during my last year of graduate school and brought up the idea of commissioning four fanfares for the Warrensburg Community Band's 40th Anniversary and asked me to write the fanfare for the Patriotic Spectacular concert because of my family's deep military background and I hopped on the opportunity. This piece is suppose to invoke the feeling that most patriotic piece have without directly quoting them until the Alto Saxes and Horns play part of the Star Spangled Banner in the middle. There are lots of loud booms from the low winds and drums, antiphonal snare drums sounding like firecrackers, and high winds with bright runs up the instrument to sound like Saturn Missiles.
