1. What is the Indo-Nepal Lipulekh Pass dispute?
India's border dispute with China, Pakistan has always been there and now Nepal has also joined this link. This quarrel is of the Dharchula Lipulekh Road and the Kalapani controversy.

2. What is the Indo-Nepal Lipulekh Pass dispute

The project was launched on 8 May 2020 of the 80 km long Dharchula Lipulekh road project under construction for many years. That is, after the construction of this road, the Lipulekh Pass adjacent to the border of China will now be connected to Uttarakhand's Dharchula. The mountain has also been cut to make this road.


After the construction of this road from the point of view of defense, the reach of the Indian Army will become easier in this area. Nepal considers this pass as part of its border. 3. Importance of Lipulekh-Dharchula Road

Before reaching the road, people used to travel about 80 km from Dharchula to reach Lipulekh. ITBP and Indian Army soldiers also used to take two to 3 days to reach Lipulekh. But now the road can be reached from Dharchula to Lipulekh by the construction of the road and the Indian troops will be able to reach the border of China.

4. Why is Nepal opposing the Lipulekh-Dharchula road?

a. Nepal claims that according to the Sugauli Treaty of 1816, the Lipulekh Pass falls in its territory, so it is wrong to build India's roads here. The Sugauli Treaty was signed between the East India Company and Nepal in 1816.

b. Nepal says that Sugauli Treaty determines its western border with India. According to the Sugauli Treaty, the area east of the Mahakali River comprising; Areas of Nepal include Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh.

c. However, Indian soldiers have been stationed in Kalapani since the India-China war of 1962 because the Indian Army had established a checkpoint in Kalapani in the 1962 India and China war.
