Officers have released CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to in connection with a sexual assault in Gorton.

It happened at about 6.45pm on Tuesday 22 January 2013 on Engell Close when a 24 year-old woman was on her way home.

The victim got on the 201 bus at Piccadilly Gardens in the direction of Gorton, she got off the bus at the Tesco Superstore on Hyde Road.

Her attacker is believed to have followed her from Piccadilly, he got on the same bus and followed her to Tesco.

He waited outside for her and followed her onto Engell Close where he sexually assaulted her.

She screamed and he ran off in an unknown direction.

The offender is described as an Asian man, aged between 25-30, 5ft 6in tall of medium build with dark coloured hair and stubble on his face.

He was wearing a white beanie hat, a blue jacket and a blue and white scarf.

Detective Constable Steven Harris from North Manchester CID, said: "The CCTV footage of the suspect is very clear, I would ask you to take a close took and if you recognise him or witnessed the assault please call me with any information.

"The offender followed the victim from Manchester city centre, he waited for her while she did her shopping, followed her down a dark alley where he sexually assaulted her.

"The victim has been left badly shaken by this ordeal. We are working very hard to try and trace the man responsible for the assault.

"Detectives are carrying out a number of inquiries and we also have specially trained officers speaking to the victim."
