The cell cycle is a series of events that takes place in a cell, leading to its division and the duplication of its DNA to produce two daughter cells. The cell cycle consists of several phases, one of which is interphase. Interphase is not a single phase but rather a period between cell divisions, and it can be further divided into three subphases: G1 (Gap 1), S (Synthesis), and G2 (Gap 2).

G1 Phase (Gap 1):

This phase follows cell division (mitosis or meiosis) and is characterized by cell growth and an increase in the number of organelles.
The cell is actively involved in metabolic activities, and it prepares for DNA synthesis.
S Phase (Synthesis):

DNA synthesis occurs during the S phase.
The cell duplicates its DNA so that each daughter cell will receive an identical set of genetic material.
At the end of the S phase, each chromosome consists of two sister chromatids connected by a centromere.
G2 Phase (Gap 2):

This phase involves further growth and preparation for cell division.
The cell synthesizes proteins and continues to increase in size.
During G2, the cell checks its DNA for errors and completes any necessary repairs
