PÉ DE MANACÁ is a band of women singers, composers and instrumentalists who focus their research and work on an unique slice of brazilian popular culture: forró pé-de-serra (country forró dance), coco de roda (coco square dance) and baianá. Having the leading artists of this scenario as the major references and sources, the band aims to set its paths along with this tradition, honoring and revering it, giving continuity and promoting such a rich legacy with authoral arrangements and performances that mirror the traditional ones.
PÉ DE MANACÁ also mingles its authoral repertoire with the sonority found in traditional culture. The fiddler’s tone, the vocals, the percussion beats and the guitar accords fuse into a mix of city and country, old and new, that shake the dance floor.
Being a resilient representative of the most often segregated or silenced brazilian women's bands, PÉ DE MANACÁ would treasure participating in such an outstanding world musical festival. We would be taking an important step towards brazilian female visibility and relevance in the musical context.
The infinite brazilian traditional artistic culture is broad and diversified. To be able to channel a unique part of such richness to the world is a genuine and long cherished dream we have carefully built up.
