Chennai: The Madras high court has stayed all proceedings in connection with a criminal defamation compliant filed against comedy actor Vadivelu before the judicial magistrate I, court, Namakkal.
Justice R. Subbaiah passed the interim order when a petition filed by actor S.N. Vadivelu came up for hearing.

In the petition, Vadivelu submitted that during the campaigning of elections that were held at South Indian Artistes Association (SIAA— Nadigar Sangam) he supported a team led by Vishal and Naser.

He addressed several meetings supporting the team. He said he never intended to make any defamatory speech against anyone as alleged by the complainant. He never committed any act of defamation attracting sections 499 and 500 IPC.

He sought direction to JM - I, Namakkal to stay all the proceeding and quash the defamation complaint. He also sought to dispense with his personal appearance before the trial court. Justice R. Subbiah has granted interim stay all further
