On January 1, 2024, former Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson announced his commitment to UCF, choosing to transfer as a graduate student with one remaining season of eligibility. Jefferson shared his decision on social media, aligning himself with the Knights as they embark on their second season in the Big 12 in 2024, following a 6-7 debut.

UCF, having previously pursued quarterback Grayson McCall from Coastal Carolina, saw McCall opt for a transfer to NC State after exploring the Orlando campus, touring facilities, and attending a Knights men's basketball game with UCF coach Gus Malzahn.

Despite challenges faced in the Big 12, finishing 3-6 in league play, UCF showcased offensive prowess, scoring 407 total points in the season. Notably, they secured a decisive victory against then-No. 15 Oklahoma State with a 45-3 score in November. UCF stood out as the lone new Big 12 member, alongside BYU, Cincinnati, and Houston, to qualify for a bowl.

KJ Jefferson, who had been a starter for the Razorbacks since his sophomore season in 2021, brings a wealth of experience, having thrown for 2,676 yards and 21 touchdowns in that pivotal year, followed by impressive performances in subsequent seasons with 24 and 19 touchdowns, respectively.
