On my Asus X542UQ-DM343T(same for R542) , I'm editing the videos you see on my channel.
What I do on it is great except for one thing. The thing is Harddisk, 1TB HDD.
 Capacity excellent, but speed is lethal slow and hinders the entire laptop.
So it was time, and the laptop got what he needed so much. He got it the fastest he gets and that's the Samsung 860 EVO M.2 500GB SSD ( You can find it here: https://amzn.to/2Sohvfl ) .
If you do not want a drive from samsung, so there are options from WD blue ( https://amzn.to/3d974Vb ) or black version ( https://amzn.to/2yWCjE4 ).
Unfortunately, the laptop does not support NVME PCIe Gen 3 SSD so for example Adata Xpg SX8200 Pro you do not run it, believe me I tried it: D
You only need to look for sata m.2 discs up to 512GB.
notebook parameters were:

HDD capacity: 1000 GB
