Описание к видео CFA Charterholder Reacts to BAD CFA Study Advice

A recent article claims there are 6 SIMPLE study strategies you can use to crush the CFA exams. But they're mostly wrong. This questionable article was circulating around reddit, so we should address these "strategies".

The first tip is to pace yourself, which the article says will ensure you comprehensively understand the material. And while I agree with the sentiment here, the only actional advice given in this step is simply Bad advice. The article says to start studying for the exam as soon as possible, and there are a few problems with this. Assuming most candidates register for each exam about 9 months out, starting right away would result in too much loss of information. It's just not feasible to effectively remember things that you learned 9 months prior. My general recommendation is to start studying 6 months in advance of the level 1 exam assuming you study 3 hours per day , and maybe even 7 months in advance of the L2 or L3 exam. And some charterholders argue that even those time periods are too long. Studying as soon as possible is just usually not an effective method. Then the article says to leave the last FEW WEEKS for practice questions and mock exams. I'm just gonna be honest here, right when I read that line I knew this was going to be a YouTube video. That advice is deplorable. If you are studying for a CFA exam, please please please give yourself more than 3 weeks for practice questions and mock exams. That is probably the most critical piece in the study process. I'm just gonna leave it at that.

The 2nd tip is to focus on the CFA institute curriculum. Again, I don't disagree with the thinking here, but there are more optimal ways to study. Plus the article mentions that the entire curriculum is available on the CFA website, which as far as I know is just wrong. At least when I was a candidate, registering for an exam also came with a pass to Bookshelf, which is the vendor that the CFAI used to provide their curriculum electronically. Does it still work that way? Let me know.

The 4th tip is to know the exam format, which sounds good, but the info they provide here is just factually wrong. The author says that each section is 3 hours, which is how the exams used to be structured 3 years ago before the CFAI went to the CBT model. And yes this article was written in 2022.

Very ironically, the next section in the article recommends that you keep up to date on the CFA exam format since it can change over time. Hmmm!I did learn something new here though; it points out that in 2009, at least I assume it meant 2009, the exam switch from 4 multiple choice options for each question, down to 3. I never knew the questions used to offer 4 potential solutions to each question, so I got on analyst forum to see what people were saying about this change back then. By the way... I was pleased to see there were several old posts about this change, and it was pretty controversial at the time. And I sort of understand why. So then I looked around for reasoning from the CFAI about why they made this change in 2008 and I couldn't find anything. Let me know if any of you happen to know.

If you have an idea of something you want me to cover in depth, please let me know because I take your requests seriously. Will be back with more CFA Exam tips in a couple of weeks so please submit more questions you would like to hear answered. Love you all!
