The sugar mill in Rafael Freyre was closed in 2003, but even today the three narrow gauge lines (760 mm) out of the main station are in use.
Some commuter traffic with rail cars, and steam trains for the tourists. Mostly from the nearby Guardalavaca area but as we will hear also from other parts of Cuba.
The locomotive no. 1 "La Mabisa" is said to be the oldest still operating steam locomotive in Cuba today, built in 1882 by Baldwin.
There are also some pictures from 1999 when the sugar mill and the steam trains still was operating.
