Lenovo ThinkPad T430 - CPU Upgrade

The trusty ThinkPad T430 is getting some upgrades again, On previous videos we have upgraded the screen to a 1600x900 HD+ unit. We then added an SSD, then we added a lovely LED backlit keyboard, but this time we are getting deep inside the guts to upgrade the processor!

After a load of research online the general advice is, while the T430 will support a 3rd Generation Intel i5, they run VERY hot in these small 14" machines and the CPU can reach temperatures of 100c and throttle back performance. This matched with the uses we use the machine for means that a HIGH clock speed, dual core processor is perfect for us as its single core performance will be higher.

Onto eBay UK we headed, and the upgrade was found!

We replace the i5-3320 with an i5-3380 chip, have a look and see how we get on!
