On December 3, 2011, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto (Caguas, Puerto Rico) met Mexican warrior Antonio Margarito (Tijuana, Mexico) in a highly anticipated rematch. Their first fight in 2008 ended in a late stoppage win for Margarito, but controversy over his hand wraps fueled years of tension leading into the second clash.

From the opening bell, Cotto boxed with discipline, relying on sharp jabs, quick footwork, and precise combinations to keep Margarito at bay. The Puerto Rican champion targeted Margarito’s right eye, which had suffered a serious injury in his previous bout, and consistently connected with left hooks and uppercuts whenever Margarito tried to press forward.
