STIHL Secateurs Range | Anvil Secateurs & Bypass Secateurs | STIHL GB

STIHL may be famous for making power tools where every design element is carefully thought through, but we apply the same attention to detail to our range of hand tools too, using first-class materials and solid construction to deliver tools that work for you. In this video, we’ll be taking a closer look at the STIHL range of anvil and bypass secateurs.

Our range of secateurs includes both bypass and anvil styles. But what’s the difference? Bypass secateurs have sharp blades that pass flush against each other. They give a precise, clean cut so should be used for pruning of live plants as they won’t crush the plant and helps to prevent infections or diseases.

Anvil cutting heads have a cutting blade that makes direct contact with the wider counter blade, known as the anvil. You need to use less force when using STIHL anvil secateurs so these are a better option for cutting dead wood or hardier plants.

Our entry level STIHL PG 10 bypass secateurs are suitable for branches up to 20mm in diameter, whereas our STIHL PG 20 and PG 30 bypass secateurs can cope with branches up to 25m. The STIHL PG 30s secateurs also have a sap groove which means that tree sap is pushed into this groove and then automatically wiped off when the blades open to prevent the steel blades from sticking.

We also have a handy holster for our bypass secateurs too that just threads on to your belt and keeps them close to hand.

There is one pair of anvil secateurs in the range, the STIHL PG 25 anvil secateurs. These are suitable for branches up to 15mm.

Don’t forget, it’s important to keep your tools sharp too. Most STIHL dealers offer a sharpening service, but our STIHL 3-in-1 sharpening tool is also an easy option. It has three different sharpening points, so it can be used on secateurs, as well as pruning shears, axes, hatchets, cutting knives and even household scissors.
