Post Red Star Raceway / 111/ GT Sports & Saloons Extreme Festival Round 3 Debreif.

We sorted out a few niggles and further developed the Turbo Setup along with the help of Chris Kambouris from TurboDirect S.A and Leonard Korff from SSS Performance, After having the car on the Dyno at 8V Performance we found the HP we were looking for, although a bit more laggy than hoped for, but a package which could be competitive.

Friday practice presented a few niggles in the car but it was mostly solid.

Saturday 07h00 qualifying placed us in 14th and 2nd in Class B to Luigi Ferro 1.8 seconds up the road, the session was challenging due to the cold track and overly cautious competitors causing a bit of a traffic jam. Our post-review of the data put our ideal lap and placed us in the top 4 overall so it was confirmed the package had the pace, we just had to string it together.

Race one and the start was disastrous with me nearly binning it into turn one, thereafter it was a game of catch-up, with a fading brake pedal on lap 7 I took the cautious approach and came through 2nd in class B and 15th Overall.
Between races Brenden from Longbuilt Performance noted a small crack on the exhaust manifold, with 40 minutes to go, Ashley Long was to the rescue, and finding a stick welder from Ivan, the Redstar Jack of all trades, Patrick Phatho speedily got the car back together and we made it for the second race with 5 min to spare.

Race 2 was a cracker, with the all-or-nothing approach I got past the Durban Golf of Ronald Van Rensburg at the start and onto the back of Mike Barbaglia and Chris Dale in the Turbo Polo Duet ahead, The car was having issues selecting gear and the clutch starting to slip but it was workable to get past Mike and a spinning Chris ahead, next up was a slowing Piet Potgieter in the Golf 7 GTI and after I caught up to the back of Lindsay Clur, Wayne and Luigi (1st Class B) but by lap 5 the cabin was filling with smoke and the clutch slipping badly. We eventually received a Black and Orange flag and were summonsed to retire the car on lap 6 with 2 to go.

Overall a promising weekend with the car showing good potential pace, now just to finally get the niggles sorted out, the Next race is on the 8th of June at Zwartkops Raceway and we promise to come back stronger, faster, and harder.

Thanks to all of the people behind our racing effort, I appreciate you all.
