Vijay Shiva is a talented Carnatic musician who, at the age of four, exhibited a rare intuitive capacity to identify ragas. He first learnt Carnatic music from his mother, Akhila Siva and later came under the tutelage of D. K. Jayaraman and D. K. Pattammal. Vijay Shiva is also an accomplished mridangam exponent and has received training from Kumbakonam Rajappa Iyer.
