Despite standing just 6-foot-3, Al Skinner led the University of Massachusetts in rebounding in each of his three years on varsity. As a senior, he averaged 18.8 points, 11 rebounds, and 5.5 assists, parlaying his production into a mid-round selection in the 1974 NBA Draft.

In lieu of latching on in the NBA, Skinner jumped ship to join the New York Nets of the ABA, reuniting with former Massachusetts superstar Julius Erving. Together, they led the Nets to an ABA title in 1976 in the league's final year of operation.

Skinner stuck with the Nets in their transition to the NBA before being sent to Detroit early in the 1977-78 season. In his lone campaign with the Pistons, Skinner provided a scoring punch in a pinch, teaming up with fellow backcourt mate Eric Money.

The footage above comes from the back end of a home-and-home with the Cleveland Cavaliers in which Skinner scored 20 and 12 points, respectively on combined 13-of-16 shooting from the floor. It was arguably his finest stretch in a Pistons uniform.

Following his playing days, Skinner parlayed his basketball experience into a fruitful coaching career. After spending nine years at the helm at Rhode Island, Skinner made the move to Boston College, where he amassed a 412-247 record over 13 seasons.
