Love is a burning thing... June Carter and Merle Kilgore wrote this iconic song, and Johnny Cash turned it into a #1 hit in 1963 with those unforgettable mariachi horns.

"Ring of Fire" was written by June Carter and Merle Kilgore about June's feelings for Johnny Cash - before they were married. She described falling in love with him as being in a "ring of fire" - consuming and inescapable.

Johnny Cash recorded the song in 1963 with the distinctive mariachi-style horn arrangement. The story goes that Cash heard the horn part in a dream and insisted on adding it despite skepticism from producers. The song spent 7 weeks at #1 on the country charts.

The Man in Black and June Carter would eventually marry in 1968, and their love story became legendary. "Ring of Fire" remains one of the most recognizable songs in country music history - that opening trumpet line is instantly identifiable.
