Gestational Age Assessmen also known as fetal age assessment, is a crucial aspect of prenatal care.

Principles of Gestation Age Assessment
1. Ultrasound Measurements
1. Crown-Rump Length (CRL): Measured between 7-14 weeks, CRL is the most accurate method for dating pregnancy.
2. Biparietal Diameter (BPD): Measured after 14 weeks, BPD is used to estimate gestational age.
3. Head Circumference (HC): Measured after 14 weeks, HC is used in combination with BPD.
4. Abdominal Circumference (AC): Measured after 14 weeks, AC is used in combination with BPD and HC.
5. Femur Length (FL): Measured after 14 weeks, FL is used in combination with BPD and HC.

2. Physical Examination
1. Fundal Height: Measures the height of the uterus above the pubic bone.
2. Fetal Heart Rate: Detected by Doppler ultrasound or fetal monitoring.

3. Menstrual History
1. Last Menstrual Period (LMP): Used to estimate gestational age, assuming a regular 28-day menstrual cycle.

4. Other Methods
1. Ultrasound Dating: Combines multiple ultrasound measurements to estimate gestational age.
2. Fetal Biometry: Measures various fetal parameters, such as limb length and skull diameter.

5. Limitations and Considerations
1. Variability: Gestational age estimates can vary depending on the method used and individual fetal development.
2. Accuracy: Ultrasound measurements are generally more accurate than physical examination or menstrual history.
