Rescue Operation underway in Ponta do Pargo Involves Air and Ground Teams

A highly complex rescue operation takes place in the coastal area of ​​Ponta do Pargo, Madeira, to remove a German citizen who was paragliding and was forced to make an emergency landing on the seashore.

The rescue, coordinated by the National Maritime Authority and the Maritime Police, has air support from the Merlin EH101 helicopter of the Portuguese Air Force. After two unsuccessful attempts due to the state of the sea, a third attempt at air extraction is planned.

Meanwhile, a land rescue team, made up of members of the local Fire Department and the Maritime Police, advances along a trail to the coastline, accompanied by two local residents, who help to reconnoitre the terrain.

Rui Teixeira, commander of the National Maritime Authority and Maritime Police, explained that the adverse sea conditions have made the aerial operation difficult, making the involvement of the ground team essential to guarantee all rescue possibilities. The Air Force Helicopter will make the third attempt.
