We live in a world where up to 90 percent of website traffic will come from mobile devices.

Making sure that visitors can find what they are looking for, and have an overall enjoyable experience, is paramount if we are to compete.
The internet advertising bureau recently did a survey that said 69 percent of smartphone users were frustrated with a site that wasn' t mobile friendly.

Google released a major update which penalised websites which were not mobile optimised, this means that any website which is not responsive will lose ranking points.
Google also announced that more searches take place on mobile devices rather than desktops.
This figure is expected to increase, and some experts think by 2018, mobile will account for 77 percent of all searches.

A responsive website automatically changes to fit the device you're reading it on.

Typically there have been four general screen sizes that responsive design has been aimed at,
the widescreen desktop monitor, the smaller desktop (or laptop), the tablet
and the mobile phone.

Google's mission statement is to organise the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.

Simply put, if your site isn' t mobile friendly, then users will enjoy being on it less.
This is the reason google would penalise your site.
